There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the border from nearby Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is against the law. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively tiny space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime destination, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing capital accrued from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few limitations requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; still, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are ways around this, as is accurate of many borders.
The original Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge gambling den, highlights 150 slot machines and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are 150 slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the familiar tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational resort and hotel building that contains many conveniences in addition to the casino, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slots and 88 tables.
