There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which gambling den betting is illegal. Eight gambling halls are established in a relatively small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime location, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The astonishing capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; still, financial sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are means around this, as is correct of many borders.
The first Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slots and 60 table games. The Naga river boat is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of 150 slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machine games and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around resort and hotel compound that contains a number of conveniences in addition to the gambling hall, which provides ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight tables.
