There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the border from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is not legal. Eight casinos are situated in a relatively tiny space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent spot, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing income gained from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a couple of restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; although, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 17:00, and although visas are for all intents and purposes needed to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of most border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship gambling den, features 150 slot machine games and sixty table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machine games and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel building that contains a number of comforts accompanying the gambling hall, which offers ten thousand square feet of 130 one armed bandits and 88 gaming tables.
