There is a captivating background to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the border from nearby Thailand, in which casino wagering is not allowed. Eight casinos are based in a generally small space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in a prime destination, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are supposedly required to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.

The first Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of 150 slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machine games and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the common tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel complex that features numerous luxuries aside from the casino, which offers ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machine games and 88 table games.
